I had an unexpected surprise Friday night - a royalty check for Missy Porter, the novel I wrote shortly after I retired.
It wasn't a real printed-on-paper check, but an electronic payment via PayPal. If it had been on paper, I might have framed it.
As it was, it wasn't even enough to treat Honey to a meal at Whataburger - almost, but she would have had to pay for her own drink.
Even so, it came as a pleasant surprise. I had almost forgotten that it was even a possibility.
