Back in the 60's, when I was a DJ at KQUE-fm in Houston, one of the most often requested groups was Los Indios Tabajaras.
The story was that they were two brothers from Brazil who were self-taught musicians, learning to play on a guitar they found in the Amazon jungle. I don't know if anyone actually believed that, but they did support themselves wearing native garb and playing in bars in Rio until they were "discovered" and became international stars.
Their biggest hit was Maria Elena, but my personal favorite was
Pajaro Campana, which translates literally as Bird Bell.
