Today is the anniversary of the first use of the Guillotine.  The year was 1792, and its first subject was a French highwayman named Nicholas Pelletier.
Whatever your views on capital punishment, you'll have to admit that in the 200-plus years since his execution, Pelletier never robbed anyone again.
