Cosco Houston

Cosco Houston

The Port of Houston Authority this week celebrated the arrival of a container ship named for the city of Houston, which docked at the Barbours Cut Terminal at the end of a journey from China via the Panama Canal.

The MV Cosco Houston is one of eight ships on an Asia-Houston direct route launched this spring by Cosco Container Lines, one of the world's largest container carriers and the national flag carrier of the People's Republic of China – this may be quibbling, but according to Cosco’s website, the ship carries Hong Kong registry.

The Port Authority calls the route the "Gulf of Mexico Express trans-Pacific service."

The MV Cosco Houston, which arrived on Tuesday, departed on its maiden voyage from Busan, South Korea, on June 2, calling at several Chinese ports before crossing the Pacific to the Panama Canal and into the Gulf.
