My parents and grandparents, commenting on the state of affairs when I was a child, often said the world was going to Hell in a hand basket. I didn't really know what a hand basket was, but I got the general idea.
I can only wonder what they would say about the state of things today.
After yesterday's Indiana primary, and Ted Cruz's capitulation, it seems clear that this year's presidential race will be between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. If you support either of them, you are in the minority - both have approval ratings well below 50% even before taking office.
I hope that hand basket has seat belts.
