At the suggestion of a Facebook friend, I installed a piece of 5 inch diameter galvanized sheet metal stove pipe on the post that supports our bird feeder.
So far, so good.
No squirrels have made it to the feeder since I installed it yesterday, but to be fair, I should mention that I haven't seen any birds in the feeder either.
